New Demo Release: PharmaLedger’s electronic Product Information (ePI) Application

You can now watch a demo of the latest version of the PharmaLedger application.

We are excited to announce the release of our new video demo in the latest version of PharmaLedger’s electronic Product Information (ePI) application. PharmaLedger’s electronic Product Information (ePI) Use Case Co-Lead Ken Thursby (MSD) leads the demo to show how patients and healthcare practitioners can scan medicine packs to access important clinical and medical information through a mobile application. You can watch the full video below.

Currently, in order to obtain information about a given medicine, a patient usually opens a medicine pack and has the option to read the patient information leaflet (PIL). In the future, you’ll be able to scan a barcode on a medicine pack using a smartphone, which Ken demonstrates in our new PharmaLedger ePI demo video.

Using a smartphone, he aims the camera at the QR barcode, located on the side of the medicine pack or on a paper leaflet inside. Clicking on the QR code leads to instructions on how to scan the 2D data matrix code (it looks similar to the QR code). A web-based application opens automatically, so there isn’t any need to download a mobile application. The web app is used to scan the 2D data matrix code. This gives the patient access to the digital eLeaflet of the given medicine, which features a user-friendly navigation page organized into different medical information sections.

Ken then scans another 2D data matrix code from a different medicine to show what happens when a medicine is past its expiration date. A note appears on the screen of the mobile application, to alert the patient. The future version of the mobile application will offer other useful features, such as medicine compatibility with other prescriptions.
